Located in the heart of Far Rockaway at 11-45 Beach Channel Drive, Magic Wok is a beloved Chinese restaurant that has been delighting locals for over two decades. Known for its quick service and consistently flavorful dishes, this unassuming eatery serves up authentic Chinese fare that keeps customers coming back time and time again.
Magic Wok’s menu boasts standout dishes like the richly satisfying Shrimp Lo Mein and the tender, savory BBQ Pork—both staples that embody the deep, comforting flavors of classic Chinese cooking. Customers rave about the way the noodles in the Lo Mein retain a perfect texture, lightly coated with a fragrant sauce that carries both sweetness and umami. Meanwhile, the BBQ Pork offers a smoky, slightly caramelized finish that's simply irresistible.
Stepping inside, the dining atmosphere is straightforward and no-frills, prioritizing speedy service and delicious food over fancy decor. While some patrons have noted that the restaurant’s exterior and storefront might appear a bit worn, this small imperfection contrasts with the warmth found in every bite. It’s clear that Magic Wok’s true charm lies in its food, not its facade.
Longtime customers like Freyda Rodriguez and Janet Hoyte share a deep sentimental connection, having enjoyed Magic Wok’s consistent flavors for decades. They attest that even after years away, the dishes still “hit” with the same comforting intensity—a true testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality. The popular shrimp fried rice and fried chicken are praised for being “popping” with flavor, while the dumplings remain another cherished classic.
Magic Wok is also known for its bustling atmosphere. Expect a steady flow of customers, with many opting for takeout and lining up for the sought-after lunch specials. Friendly advice from regulars: it’s cash only and best to call ahead to avoid waiting, although peak times can make getting through a challenge due to the high demand.
Parking can be tricky as the restaurant’s popularity causes some double parking around the location, but this just reinforces how much Far Rockaway values this straightforward gem. Despite a few neighborhood challenges, such as loitering in front of the store, Magic Wok remains a trusted spot for nourishing, satisfying Chinese meals that offer both comfort and convenience.
If you’re craving an authentic taste of classic Chinese cuisine with familiar favorites that never lose their flavor, Magic Wok is a must-visit. It’s a place where generations of locals find joy in each bite, embracing the warmth and memories that only great food can provide.
NYC Chinese food fast and quick 4 orders came out to $40
The food is delicious here you can’t go wrong it’s the best Chinese food in the area, the only thing is the store looks rundown so at first glance you would just say no. A lot of homeless linger in front of the store begging for money. They need to stop them from doing that.
I've been going to this restaurant since I was a teen more then 20 years. The foods flavor never changed. The food has always been good especially their lo mein and dumplings when I move this place will be missed the most.
We’ve been going here for the past 10 years and due to us moving out of state we have not been back in a long time. We returned last and when I tell you the food still hits!!! The line is always busy so keep calling back. It’s cash only and best to call ahead for pick up. Of course we were so hungry no pics were taken lol
Food was great. Service was quick. Fried chicken was popping, shrimp fried rice popping too. There's parking but everyone double parks cause of how good it is. Price is relatively similar and normal. Lunch special is a good deal (photos attached). Cash only. Side note. We tried calling for a take out this weekend and none of the lines were working. But I think that's cause mad people were ordering. Update: there's pan handlers, which kinda sucks. There's an ATM machine inside, but there's a $2 fee for me. It's our go to Chinese spot now, other spots don't hit the same.
I just recently moved here and all my coworkers told me this was the best Chinese spot in the area. I decided today to go and try it out and just from the video I posted you can see how moist these rib tips are. I called in my order when I was at Woodmere on the LIRR and by time I got to the restaurant it was already done and waiting for me. The worker won’t add any sauces to your order. If you have fries, they will put it on fresh when you get to the restaurant so that it’s not soggy and I appreciated that. The barbecue sauce was nice and sweet and I almost told her to add more and I was glad I didn’t because what looked like a small amount was actually a lot. So far, I’ve only been here once and I’ve only tried one dish, but I will definitely be a frequent customer .
I love the food here. I dont have pictures but I've ordered from this place many times over the years. Its still great food and service!
